Key accused in Burdwan case held

The Assam police have arrested Sahanur Alom alias ‘Doctor’ alias ‘Ilius’, a top Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) operative, who also featured in the National Investigation Agency’s most wanted list in connection with the blast in Burdwan.

The Assam police have arrested Sahanur Alom alias ‘Doctor’ alias ‘Ilius’, a top Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) operative, who also featured in the National Investigation Agency’s most wanted list in connection with the blast in Burdwan.

He was produced at the chief judicial magistrate Court, Kamrup and has been sent to police remand for 14 days.

The NIA had announced cash reward of `5 lakh for information leading to Alom’s arrest.

Sahanur Alom was one of the top JMB operative’s and had good rapport with outfit’s leader in Bangladesh and in West Bengal. The police had recently arrested his wife, Sujina Begum, for motivating people to join the outfit.

According to the police, five key JMB operatives and almost 60 cadre of the outfit are still at large in the state.
