KMC chief warns corrupt officials

MUNICIPAL COMMISSIONER Badal Chatterjee has his job cut out. Talking to newsmen here today, Chatterjee minced no words in saying that the civic body’s functioning would be disciplined and action taken against the guilty.

“Action will be taken against corrupt officials and no one will be spared,” Chatterjee, who took over the post recently following the suspension of his predecessor Arvind Singh, said. Emphasing on team work, he insisted, “ I believe in taking along my team members with me in all policy decision of the corporation.”

Replying to a query, Chatterjee said, “My priorities will be to ensure implementation of all projects of the KMC along with the removal of encroachments in the city.”

He added that disposal of garbage and proper cleaning of the city would also be on his priority list.

Soliciting people’s support, Chatterjee said, “It is the moral duty of the masses to see that encroachments do not come up.” Encroachments should be discouraged by the public to ensure that streets remained free, added Chatterjee.

He also made it clear that whatever be the financial status of a person, the KMC would not differentiate in demolishing illegal structures irrespective.

Commenting on the financial crisis in the KMC, Chatterjee stated that ‘Property Tax’ was the main source of revenue for KMC and professional approach would be adopted in realising revenue from the masses.

Replying to a query related to the ongoing inquiry in the accounts department, the Municipal Commissioner said, “I will look into the matter and see to it that the probe is completed on timely.” On the internal rift between the officials of KMC, Chatterjee pointed out that he would ensure that the entire ‘team’ worked as a cohesive unit.
