Lachungpa takes over as NECCC treasurer
AICC member T Lachungpa has been appointed Treasurer of the Shillong-based North East Congress Coordination Committee.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) member from Sikkim, T Lachungpa, has formally taken charge as the treasurer of the North East Congress Coordination Committee (NECCC) based in Shillong.

Announcing this at a press conference in Gangtok on Thursday, Lachungpa said that though his appointment had been made by Meghalaya Chief Minister DD Lapang earlier in June, he could not take over immediately due to a minor ailment, and rumblings within the state unit of the party.
Expressing his happiness over the appointment, Lachungpa, who had recently rebelled against Sikkim Congress chief Nar Bahadur Bhandari, thanked the high command and party leaders from the northeast for showing faith in his abilities.
It is for the first time that a party leader from the Himalayan state has been appointed to this prestigious post, the third in command after the chairman and the general secretary of the body.
T Lachungpa along with Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee (SPCC) Working President Ashok Tsong and Vice-President KN Upreti had recently demanded removal of Nar Bahadur Bhandari from the post of the state party president, complaining of his dictatorial style of functioning.
His appointment to the post comes as a jolt to Bhandari, who had earlier expelled Lachungpa from the party charging him with anti-party activities during the state assembly polls in May this year.
