Laptops to increase junior railway officers? efficiency
INDIAN RAILWAYS is all set to make its lower and middle level officials more computer savvy. Under the initiative, said to be a brain child of Minister for Railways, Lalu Prasad Yadav, the railways have decided to provide laptops to even its junior grade officers, with an aim to increase their efficiency and make their working more effective and speedy.

All railway zones, including the North Central Railway, have received instructions in this regard from the Railway Board that all the Junior Administrative Grade (JAG) officers and the officers up to the branch manager level working in various departments be provided with laptops at the earliest.
Talking to HT Allahabad Live, NCR’s Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Allahabad SK Chowdhary said, "The step is being taken to improve the administrative efficiency. With this, the officers will be able to access the desired information at any time and thus will be able to carry out the work in a better and speedy way. They will also be able to take decisions and communicate them to the wing concerned within no time.".
The initiative is certainly going to make the public interface faster, claimed the DRM. The grievances of the passengers would be dealt in a better manner as the passengers would be given an e-mail address, where they can log on and can file their complaints.
About 200 laptops will be purchased for all the three divisions of the North Central Railway (NCR)----Allahabad, Agra and Jhansi. A spot purchase committee will soon be nominated to carry out the purchases.
Once laptops are procured, training sessions will be held, where officers will be given instructions regarding functions and operations of the laptop. "Work in this regard will be done within a month", said the DRM.
