Suneel Darshan’s Andaaz marked the entry of two former beauty queens in Bollywood — Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra. Lara may have won the Miss Universe contest vis-à-vis Priyanka’s Miss World, but the latter has taken the lead when it comes to films. With Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Aitraaz and Waqt, Priyanka has already been tipped as the actor to look out for.
What about Lara? After Andaaz Lara hasn’t had a big hit except for No Entry and the average grosser Kaal (both were multi-starrers). Of course, her item act in Khakee (Aisa jadoo), garnered her popularity. Now she is counting on Sanjay Gupta’s Zinda that releases this Friday. "I have full faith in Sanjay. He has a different style," says Lara over phone from Mumbai. Zinda also stars Sanjay Dutt, John Abraham and Celina Jaitley.
"The role is something that I have never played before," she says. Lara plays a cab driver based in Bangkok. "She talks non-stop and is the lighter element in the film. But she too gets entrapped in the revenge drama," adds Lara. So, does the role have a lot of humour? "It has but she is a rational and very strong character," adds Lara. The two protagonists in the film have a one-point agenda — revenge.
How was it working with John Abraham and Sanjay Dutt? "I have worked with John before but this was my first film with Sanjay. He is shy but sticks to his work," says Lara who has David Dhawan’s Partner (with Salman Khan and Govinda) in hand. She craves more powerful roles. "I really wish for a role where I can make my presence felt."
