Hostel inmates sensed something was wrong when the door of room no. 20, in which Naveen resided, did not open till 11.30 am. As their knocks drew no response, fellow hostellers peeped through the keyhole and saw Naveen’s body hanging.

On being informed, police reached the hostel and took the body into custody.

Naveen had hung himself with woollen clothes. His feet were touching the ground. Police also found a love letter written in blood by Naveen.

Sources said Naveen, son of Badshah Mishra of Kudrabal village, under Lar police station of Deoria district, had been undergoing treatment for possible depression. Police also found a diary from the hostel in which Naveen had named former Prime Minister Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru as his hero. He had quoted Nehru in bold letters in the diary. Police are also going through the mobile phone records of Naveen.

Hostellers demanded that the warden be punished for allegedly reaching the spot an hour after the incident.
