Leopard kills a child, two leopardesses die in Uttarakhand

A child was killed and another escaped miraculously in two separate leopard attacks since on Sunday evening in Uttarakhand where two leopardesses died in Lansedown area of Pauri district, official sources said in Dehradun.

Nine-year-old Moni was killed by a leopard when she was playing outside her home at Tharp village in the remote Pithoragarh district last evening.

The half-eaten body of the girl was later found in the forests near the village.

Anil Rawat (10) was playing near his house at Bhatwari village in Rundraprayag district today when a leopard suddenly attacked him.

On seeing that the leopard was taking away the child, the villagers raised an alarm due to which the man-eater threw the kid and ran away.

The child was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where his condition is stated to be out of danger.

Bodies of two female leopards were found at Lansedown Forest area of Pauri district on Sunday.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of their death.
