The court of Additional Sessions Judge Ashok Kumar Singh yesterday sentenced Santosh Rani, Raj Rani, Baljinder Kaur and Chandarani, all from Kotkapura, to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 2000 each, on charge of killing a new born baby girl on September 2007.

According to the prosecution, Gurmail Singh in his complaint had said the four accused pushed his daughter into prostitution. Later his daughter became pregnant.

He then filed a complaint with the police against the four women and some other persons, who had allegedly raped his daughter.

To identify the accused, police planned to carry out a DNA test of the child.

To thwart the DNA test of the child, the women strangulated to death the newly born child.
