Lightning kills four people in Umaria in Madhya Pradesh

Four people were killed after being struck by lightning in Umaria district, about 525 kilometers southeast of Bhopal, on Thursday evening. Their bodies were found on Friday morning.

They had gone for fishing when the incident occurred at Dimani village, about 75km from the district headquarters of Umaria.

The deceased were identified as Mehe Lal Singh (31), Mahendra Pal Singh (30), Nirpat Singh (30) and Udaybhan Singh (28), all residents of Dimani.

Police said they were fishing in a river that flows through the village. Suddenly, it started raining. They huddled under a tree to protect themselves from the rain when they were struck by lightning.

When they did not return home till late night, their family members started searching for them. On Friday morning, the bodies of all four were found under a tree close to the river.
