A 70-year-old man was killed after being struck by lightning at Omalur in the district, police said.
Nallagounder was taking bath near a tree on Sunday when the incident occurred, police said today.
Four others were admitted to hospital with minor injuries.
Salem and Omalur experienced heavy rains with lightning and thunder on Sunday.
