SHE REFERS to her father and famous director Mahesh Bhatt, from whom she has acquired the value and passion to succeed in life, as ‘Mr Bhatt’ or ‘Bhatt saab’. The famous film actress-turned-filmmaker Pooja Bhatt says that a director’s work is to make stars out of naïve youngsters and not to run after bollywood superstars for dates.
Pooja, one of the judges of the Zee Cinestars Ki Khoj, is in the City to promote the show and select contestants for wild card entry round. As straightforward as ever, She accepted that it is a special trait of Bhatt family to raise social issues, take risks of casting new actors and talk about issues that are considered taboo. This society is full of hypocrisy and people find it hard to accept the facts, remarked the actor while talking to media persons on Thursday.
About the fact that winners of talent hunts mostly go into oblivion, Pooja said that it eventually depends on the individual to pursue a career in this competitive industry. According to Pooja, these shows are launch pads for youngsters who are not star sons or daughters yet survive and succeed in film industry.
Pooja, who has worked both behind and in front of the camera, said that originality is something that is hardly seen nowadays in the film industry. When asked about her father’s inclination towards making films on his own life, Pooja said that as long as people accept such stories and films there should be no complaints.
Asked about feminist issues, Pooja, who is married to popular Channel V host Udham Singh, said that she does not consider men as her enemies and respects them but that cannot stop her from showing the reality. “Women must not try to ape men as that only hurts her own dignity,” said Pooja.
The director said that she is on the look out for a fresh face for her future project but have yet to come across anyone so ambitious. ‘‘As my father always says, ‘There are lot many people hungrier than you and they could replace you for better’’’.
