Liz Taylor's first husband was 'cruel' drunk
The movie legend says that she divorced hotelier Conrad Hilton Jr when she discovered he was an alcoholic.
Movie legend Elizabeth Taylor has revealed that her first husband hotelier Conrad Hilton Jr. was a "cruel" drunk.
Taylor was a teenager when she married. She was so much in love with Conrad, uncle of Paris and Nicky Hilton's father, that she studied Catholicism to become his wife.
But she admits she never took the marriage seriously and divorced him when she discovered he was an alcoholic.
Imdb.com quoted her as saying: "When I got a divorce... I never told the court why, but he was cruel. When he drank it all came out, and I hadn't seen that before because he was on the wagon the eight months we were engaged. I didn't have a clue. But I thought, 'This isn't why god put me on earth.'
She added: "When I had to swear in front of the archbishop to be a good wife and all that stuff, I had my fingers crossed behind my back because I didn't know if I could be a good wife."
