Maurya drew flak from all quarters for giving sermons at the ‘bhajan sandhya’ organised in the LMC office and not visiting the waterlogged area where his presence would have made a difference.

It may be recalled that nullah water overflowed on to the streets and entered houses on Thursday in the Riverbank Colony. The entire stretch from KK Hospital to Shaheed Smarak was submerged in waist-deep sewer water. The deluge was caused when barrels of Gomti river closed and operators of the Municipal Corporation failed to switch on the pumps to flush out the overflow.

The phone of chief engineer LMC was switched off, and City engineer SK Jain was sitting in the LMC office when the Municipal Commissioner enquired about the situation in Riverbank Colony. Maurya directed the demolition 40 pucca houses constructed illegally on the nullah land. “Replacement of these families is a must as houses on the nullah have created cracks that can cave in any day,” said Maurya.
