TAKING SERIOUS note of arbitrary decision of the LML to handover the case related to closure of its Panki unit to the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR), the labour commissioner is planning to handover a salary recovery notice to the company management.

Expressing anguish over the decision of LML management, Labour Commissioner Sharda Prasad stated that the decision tantamount to deceiving the labour office. A notice for the recovery of all pending dues of employees including salary would be served to the LML management soon.

After the lockout was declared at LML’s plant at Panki, salary of employees is pending since February last. The monthly salary of about 3,000 employees of LML comes to around Rs 84 lakh and for the past eight months, the employees have not received their salaries.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Prasad said: “The decision of LML management to handover the case to the BIFR without informing the labour office has been taken as a breach of trust. Therefore, a salary recovery notice will be served to the LML management soon.”

The State Government has also expressed its reservation over the LML’s decision to handover its case to the BIFR without taking it into confidence. The LML Limited Mazdoor Union also held a meeting with the labour commissioner on Monday and expressed their concern over the management’s decision to handover the case to the BIFR.

President of the union JP Pandey said that the State Government had also taken serious note of the LML management’s decision.

“A strict action relating to declaring the lockout as ‘illegal’ could also be taken by the State Government in near future,” stated Pandey.

However, the agitating employees are in no mood to relent. Even after the assurance of all help from the State Government, the employees are planning to stage a demonstration in front of the Vidhan Sabha.

“The labour commissioner has assured us of all possible help but the employees do want to be complacent. Therefore, we have decided to stage a demonstration in front of the Vidhan Sabha on September 22,” stated Pandey.

To put forward the viewpoint of employees, JP Pandey would also personally present the case before the authorities concerned of BIFR on September 25.
