IT’S STRANGE that the Lucknow University Teachers’ Association (LUTA) is not reacting against the teachers who have zero classes to their credit or those who were found absent during a recent inspection by the V-C in commerce department. In fact, LUTA has so far been maintaining that regular classes were a must.

LUTA president DP Tewari said that he would personally appeal to those teachers who have not taken any classes. General secretary Pushpendra Mishra said that he would talk to the teachers and convince them in this regard.
Interestingly, both of them did not condemn their colleagues for not taking classes.
Tewari was not even aware about the V-C carrying out any surprise inspection in commerce department. “I was not aware. But now that it has been pointed out to me, I would look into the matter. I would meet the teachers individually and ask them to take their classes,” LUTA chief said. Mishra said that he would not react merely on the basis of a version from one side. He said: “I would talk to the teachers and ask them what they have to say on the V-C’s report. There is a possibility that on a given day some teachers were not present but this does not mean that the entire commerce faculty is not taking regular classes.”
He explained: “There is a possibility that those teachers who were not present when the V-C visited the department may have finished taking their classes before his arrival and left the block. There is also likelihood that since the students were not there and hence the teacher left the department without taking class. These things need to be ascertained.”
Interestingly, Pro V-C, dean of Commerce faculty and head of Applied Economics RS Yadav and head of Commerce department DP Mishra both tried to shield these erring teachers. The duo said that there is possibility that V-C might have spoken to those students who never come to attend their classes.
Yadav said: “Till today there are some students who are changing their optional papers while there are some who want to get change their sections. All these exercise take sometime and hence classes for optional papers may not have taken place.” Similarly, another teacher said that there was possibility that student may have lied to the V-C for humiliating teachers.
On the other hand, LUTA office-bearers unanimously said they would issue an appeal to the teachers to take their classes and complete their course by taking extra classes.
