A GANG of six contract killers associated with underworld dons Chhota Rajan, Eizaz Lakadwala and Abu Salem landed in the Special Task Force net here on Tuesday.

They were also involved in gun-running. The criminals were working for dons in UP and other parts of the country.

Special Task Force sleuths recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including .9 mm pistols and .38 revolvers, and a Maruti Esteem car, from the possession of the gang members.

The accused were identified as Rajesh Kumar Kamble alias Bhau alias DP Raja of 7-A, Maidoja Apartment, Kajur Road (Mumbai), Vishal alias Rohit of 46, Mandi Kona, Sarrafa Bazaar (Muzaffarnagar), Nabi Ahmed alias Bhaiyu of Bakshipura Dargah Sharif (Bahraich), Chand Mohammad of Santa Cruz East (Mumbai), Raj Kumar Pandey alias Manager of Sulka Hadila, Gilaula (Shrawasti) and Syed Raees Ahmed alias Uzmi alias Razzaq alias Tabrez of 449/89, Girdhari Lal Mayur Road, Muftiganj (Thakurganj).

Additional superintendent of police, STF, Vijay Bhushan, Dy SP Rajesh Dwivedi and inspector Avinash Mishra were tipped off about the movement of the gang on the Nepal border a few months ago.

The cops had received information that Eizaz, who earlier was a confidant of Chhota Rajan, had shifted to Dhaka after he fell out with his mentor four years ago. However, he still was in contact with Chhota Rajan.

Besides running an extortion and contract- killing racket in and around Mumbai parallel to Chhota Rajan, Eizaz was engaged in gun-running. He used to give bulk orders for assembling .9 mm pistols and .38 bore revolvers at an illegal firearms factory in Munger district in Bihar.

Eizaz used to supply firearms and ammunition to gangs in Mumbai, Nagpur, UP, MP and Nepal. The firearms were supplied to criminals attached to Chhota Rajan, Abu Salem and Chhota Shakeel.

Vijay Bhushan said Kamble was a sharp shooter wanted in over half a dozen high- profile killings in different parts of Mumbai. Kamble was engaged in contract killings for Abu Salem, Chhota Rajan and Eizaz since 1993. His high-profile victims included Muslim League MLA Ziauddin Bukhari in 1993, racecourse owner Mahendra Chodia (dead) and Iqbal Mirchi (survived) in 1998. Both were Dawood’s aides. Leading contractor Vinay Abodkar and Vijay Utkar were also Kamble’s victims.

Vijay Bhushan said Rajan had given a contract to Eizaz for killing Dawood’s aide Noor Baksh, who was earlier lodged in Lucknow jail. Baksh had played a role in a near-fatal attack on Chhota Rajan in Bangkok in the year 2000. Eizaz had also accepted a contract to eliminate a Lucknow-based hotel owner who was a close relative of Dawood’s brother Noora. However, both the jobs were yet to be executed.

Vijay Bhushan further said Uzmi used to make arrangements for the stay of the gang members in Lucknow, while Chand used to provide lodging for them at his Bahraich house when the gangsters were on way to Nepal.
