Maharashtra: 3 dead, 21 hurt as bus falls in gorge

Three people were killed and 21 injured as Maharashtra state transport bus fell in a gorge from a bridge in Khandala Ghat on Friday, spoksperson of MSRTC confirmed.

Three people were killed and 21 injured as Maharashtra state transport bus fell in a gorge from a bridge in Khandala Ghat on Friday, spoksperson of MSRTC confirmed.

The accident took place on the Mumbai-Pune Express Way when the bus (MH-07- 9038) was travelling from Satara to Mumbai, the spoksperson of MSRTC, Mukund Dhus said.

"It was semi-luxury bus which left Satara at 3.00pm," he added.

The injured people were initially admitted to Parmar Hospital in Lonvala but were later shifted to Pimpri-Chinchwad's Yashwantrao Chavan Hospital.

According to unconfirmed reports three passengers were killed and several others are injured. Death toll likely to go up as bus fell down in the 60 feet gorge. HT could not independently confirm the death toll.

Highway police control room informed that about 25 people were travelling onboard bus. Highway police, IRB staffers, Lonavala city police and other authorities have reached the spot with crane and ambulances and rescue operations are on.
