The area, considered unfavourable for agriculture and other developmental processes, is on the way of exploiting its scenic beauty and historical backdrop to promote tourism industry in the region.

“Mahoba is the land of lakes namely Madan Sagar, Vijay Sagar and Urmil Sagar.

There are plans to construct canals on the lakes for the purpose of irrigation. Besides, there will be other developments which will take place side by side such as construction of restaurants near the lakes, shelter for tourists etc. Thus it is a composite project which is based on overall development of the region,” said RK Yadav, regional tourist officer.

Yadav held a meeting recently with DM Mahoba Sameer Verma to discuss the strategy of developmental process to be undertaken.

“The DM has delegated the task to the officials of irrigation department, ADA, forest office and other concerned departments which could work in coordination,” said Yadav.

“Water sports will also be promoted and there are plans to spend approximately Rs 1 crore on this plan. The entire project will be framed within a month and then the proposal will be sent to the government for sanctioning the money,” he added. Yet another major plan is to link Mahoba tourism with Khajuraho, which is at a distance of 60 km.

“It is quite evident that Khajuraho is a major tourist spot and hold major attraction for foreigners throughout the year. But it is expensive. And here we want to score,” he said.

“We will construct full-fledged hotels in Mahoba which will be cheap as compared to those in Khajuraho. There will be a special package for the tourists in which they will be invited to stay at Mahoba, visit significant spots and leave for Khajuraho by bus. Bus service will be provided by the tourism sector,” yadav said.

“After spending a day at Khajuraho, the tourists will be brought back to Mahoba. This plan will help in boosting the tourism industry in Mahoba,” said Yadav.
