Suspected malaria with jaundice has claimed 17 lives in the last one month in Deomali and its surroundings in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh, district medical officer N Singh said on Tuesday.

Singh said that the preventive steps were taken on war footing to bring the situation under control.

Earlier on June four local legislator Wanki Lowang had claimed death of 20 people in 15 days and had sought assistance from the health directorate.
