Four more infants died at Malda Sadar Hospital today after they were referred from rural hospitals in critical state, taking the crib death toll to 35 in the past nine days.

Four more infants died at Malda Sadar Hospital on Thursday after they were referred from rural hospitals in critical state, taking the crib death toll to 35 in the past nine days.

The babies, who were born underweight and suffered from broncho pneumonia, were brought from the interior areas of Malda district, hospital authorities said.

All four babies were also born premature, the authorities said.

Unofficial figures have put the death toll at 45.
