This decision was taken during a state-level mahapanchayat held at Ahulana village near Gohana of Sonepat district. Gathwala khap president Baljit Singh said, “This decision has been taken to increase the prospects of marriageable age persons of our gotra to marry within caste.”

Notably, the said gotra youths had started opting to marry outside caste over not finding prospective groom and bride within the community. It is pertinent that the Gathwala (Malik) is the largest khap of North India and many a times, the gotra of the grand mother used to become a hurdle in settling the marriage of youths.

The representatives of Malik khap from other states, like, Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi, Uttrakhand, also participated in the mahapanchayat.
