The committee was in the city to find out about the alleged irregularities. A delegation of the Mahapanchayat met the committee members at the circuit house here on Monday and handed over their complaints.

A press communiqué issued by the president of the Mahapanchayat stated that between 1980 to 1987, KDA had acquired 112 private Hatas in the city and put restrictions on the sale and purchase of the same land.

Besides, it also restricted issuance of ‘no objection certificate’ (NOC) from their end. But the same was approved during the KDA board meeting through a proposal. The restrictions on the sale and purchase of the said land were made through a letter dated August 24, 1988, from the secretary of KDA to the DM.

The Mahapanchayat leaders alleged that the sale and purchase continued despite restrictions. On March 14, 2005, and November 25,2005, two more letter were issued by the secretary (slum) in this regard. However, even this did not stop sale and purchase of the said land.

The leaders said if an inquiry in this regard was set up, it could expose one of the biggest land scandals of the State. Those who were in the delegation included Ramashankar Rai, Dilip Rajput and Jamuna Prasad.
