Mamata flags off new train in north Bengal

Several railway projects were in line for the scenic North Bengal region, which could be turned into Switzerland, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said in Cooch Behar on Thursday.

Several railway projects were in line for the scenic North Bengal region, which could be turned into Switzerland, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said in Cooch Behar on Thursday.

"The people of north Bengal have been neglected for long. We will be happy to do something for them. Several projects are in the pipeline for the region," she said.

"North Bengal which has abundant natural beauty will be turned into Switzerland. Give me some time. I will do it," she said.

The Railway minister was here to flag off New Cooch Behar-Kamakshya daily Intercity Express. She called on stage a two-year-old boy to flag off the new train.

Banerjee said the New Jalpaiguri-Jogighopa railway project would be completed in phases and the New Cooch Behar- Golakgunj, a part of this, would be completed within a year.

Rs 100 crore had been sancationed for New Cooch Behar-Golakgunj project.

Banerjee also laid the foundation stone of the Rail Heritage Museum here.
