IN A shocking incident at tehsil headquarters of Barnagar, 45 km from here, a man axed his wife’s paramour and then walked to the police station carrying the severed head of his victim on Friday.
According to police sources, 32-year-old Radheshyam first used an axe to sever the head of Sunil Borasi, who reportedly had illicit relations with his wife, on a field. He then walked across the town with the head in one hand and the axe in the other and went straight to the police to confess his crime.
Sunil allegedly had an illicit relationship with Narmada Bai, wife of Radheshyam. On coming to know of this, Radheshyam had tried to solve the matter through dialogue with Sunil several times. However, this was to no avail, and Sunil and Narmada Bai reportedly started living together at Betma in Dhar about three months ago.
Radheshyam managed to bring them back to Barnagar on Thursday and proposed that they approach the police to resolve the matter. When Radheshyam failed in his efforts to make Sunil see reason, he was so angered that he took the axe and did him to death.
Radheshyam said he had no remorse over the killing, as he and his children had been suffering due to the illicit relationship.
Radheshyam reportedly paid obeisance at each temple he passed while going to the police station, and even stopped at a shop to buy a bidi, to the utter shock of the vendor.
Senior police officials, including G Janardhan and ASP R S Malviya reached the town later in the morning after hearing of the incident. Police recovered the body from the field where the crime was committed and the head and sent them to the hospital for postmortem.
