A man from Bihar, who was caught carrying a detonator at the Prime Minister's Office, has been arrested and charged with attempting to "carry out explosions" in Delhi.

After detailed interrogation of the accused, Ashok Kumar, which included checking of his antecedents from Rohtas district of Bihar, the Delhi Police decided to place him under arrest charging him under the provisions of the Explosives Substances Act.

Kumar had created a flutter last evening when he had appeared at Gate No 5 of the South Block, housing the office of Prime Minister with a detonator in his hands.

Security personnel immediately summoned elite Special Protection Group men who took Kumar into custody. Delhi Police and Intelligence Bureau officials were roped into the interrogation.

Kumar claimed that the detonator had been planted at his residence by certain influential people who wanted to kill him as he wanted reopening of a case relating to the murder of his brother.

During interrogation, he said that he had petitioned the country's top leaders including President APJ Abdul Kalam, the Prime Minister and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on the death of his brother.

This, he claims, was not liked by the alleged murderers of his brother who planted the detonator at his home.
