A man, accused of raping his daughter for over a year, was arrested here on Saturday. The man is trying to save himself by telling the police that he was practising occult rituals and that his daughter is a ‘nagin’.
The daughter had requested her brothers to save her from the ordeal, but they chose to ignore her. The frustrated girl then decided to end her life. But she was saved by her neighbour. And on the neighbour’s persuasion, she lodged a complaint with the Heera Nagar police.
Durga Shankar Balai, 53, a resident of New Gauri Nagar, told the police that he spent most of his time in praying and his daughter had been helping him in ‘tantrik-kriyas’ from a young age.
As part of the occult rituals, Durga Shankar engaged in pysical act with his daughter for the first time last year. He said he became possessed during the course of the rituals. The daughter became semi-conscious during which he invoked a ‘nagin’ into her body. She then demanded immediate gratification, Durga Shankar claimed.
The police rubbish it as a bizarre story, saying he is trying to pass himself off as a weirdo and save him. The police consider the widower’s act a case of lust.
Balai became an alcoholic after failure at his workplace and on the domestic front. The girl was sixmonths old when her mother died. Three sons deserted their alcoholic father.
The girl, now 17-year-old, suffered in silence her father’s acts. Pushed to the wall with no support from her brothers, she was going to commit suicide when her neighbour Jeetu saved her.
The police have recoreded statements of the family members and the neighbour. The girl and the accused were medically examined. Durga Shankar has been kept in the lock-up. He will be presented before a magistrate soon. Heera Nagar police have asked for medical samples of the man charged under the Section 352 of the IPC.
