A group of 10 to 12 people entered the bank at Janakpurdham, near the Indo-Nepal border and 380 km south-east of captal Kathmandu, at about 11 am and looted the cash from the safe vault at gun point, Assistant General Manager of the Bank Ajaya Shukla said.

The police are suspecting Maoist hand in the incident.

No one has so far been arrested in connection with the robbery at the bank, a joint venture with the Punjab National Bank of India.

The security forces have launched a haunt for those involved in the looting.
