Maoists threaten Karma family to leave village within 7 days

After killing Mahendra Karma, Maoists have sent a chilling message to his family: leave your ancestral home in seven days or face the consequences.
"The Maoists conveyed their threat to me through locals on Monday even as we were preparing for my father's last rites," the slain Congress leader's eldest son Chavindra Karma said over phone from Pharaspal village.
Pharaspal, home to the Karma family, is in Naxal-affected Dantewada district, about 450km south of Raipur. Karma is survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters.
"We will not leave home," said Chavindra, a former district panchayat president.
"We have lost several relatives in the Maoist violence. Such threats will not prevent us from moving ahead to fulfil my father's dream to end Maoist violence in the region and bring back peace," he said after his father's cremation.
Chief minister Raman Singh has directed the state police to provide Karma's family Z plus security.
The family of slain state Congress chief Nand Kumar Patel will get Z category security.
