Chasing 243 for three, Marshall smashed 111 as the tourists reached their target with almost 12 overs to spare.
He was well supported by Craig McMillan who made an unbeaten 52 from 56 balls.
It was Marshall's second one-day century, following his first against Pakistan in December, and included 15 fours in a 97-ball innings.
The Essex innings had been built around skipper Ronnie Irani who hit an unbeaten 72 from 92 balls.
Paul Grayson made 57 and shared in a stand of 69 in 15 overs with Irani.
But the county's most substantial partnership featured Irani and Ravinder Bopara who put on an unbroken 100 in 16 overs with Bopara scoring 40 from 47 balls.
