Mayors urged to promote Urdu

GHANI TALIMI Markaz has called upon the newly elected mayors, chairmen of nagar panchayats and corporators to take their oath in Urdu to popularise the language and to show their love for it. On the occasion of the International Urdu Day that coincided with the birth anniversary of Allama Iqbal on Thursday, a function was held at Sahkarita Bhawan, presided over by Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali, Naib Imam of Eidgah.

On the occasion of the International Urdu Day that coincided with the birth anniversary of Allama Iqbal on Thursday, a function was held at Sahkarita Bhawan, presided over by Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali, Naib Imam of Eidgah.

Inaugurating the function, Abdul Naseer Nasir called upon the newly elected mayors and corporators to prefer Urdu while taking oath and to get their letter pads printed in the language too.

Dr Gaznafar Ali, principal of Urdu Research Centre, Government of India said that people often asked whether the knowledge of Urdu could provide jobs.

“I want to know whether the knowledge of science can guarantee a job?” Maulana Khalid Rashid urged the State government to make Urdu compulsory till class VIII and publish the UP Board papers in Urdu as well.
