Protests against the MCD's ongoing demolition drive turned violent on Tuesday in Govindpuri area of south Delhi when an irate mob blocked roads and pelted stones at the police and vehicles.

Scores of protestors gathered on the road to prevent the drive and later set afire tyres, effigies and pelted stones at policemen, leading to chaos and huge traffic snarls in the busy Okhla Industrial area.

Police have rushed further reinforcement to the scene to prevent the situation from going out of control.
