This was decided in a meeting of the civic body's advertisement committee on Wednesday, which was attended by the mayor, deputy mayor and senior deputy mayor.

Senior deputy mayor Yashpal Batra said, "We will meet the mall owners at 10am on Friday, followed by the advertisers at 12 in the noon and liquor vend owners at 1.30pm after which we will take a final decision on the rates and the our next course of action.”

While the MCG is insisting on R100 per square feet per month, building owners are not willing to pay more than R80 per square feet per year. According to a new MCG directive, liquor vend owners also need to pay the same rates as that of building owners.
