Police said the insurgents, suspected to be activists of banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), first attacked a small police camp in the area.
The group then encircled three-four houses of the village and fired at the residents killing seven persons on the spot and injuring three others, police said.
One of the injured later succumbed to injuries at Agartala Medical College Hospital.
Huge contingents of police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) have launched extensive combing operation in the area, they said.
