ABOUT 100 PEOPLE entered the Barra substation on Monday and ransacked it following prolonged power failure. The ransacking of substation has caused a great loss to the KESCo.

However, no KESCo official was injured in the incident.
According to reports, the power supply to Barra area was snapped on Sunday evening due to cable fault. When the power supply could not be restored till late in the evening, the locals entered the Barra substation and requested the KESCo officials to repair the cable.
But instead of repairing the fault, the KESCo officials said that the fault would be repaired only when all the technicians would arrive. Their repeated requests fell on deaf ears of KESCo officials.
Annoyed with the officials’ attitude towards their problem, a mob of over 100 people attacked the substation and ransacked it. The panel of a 33-kva transformer, several fans, many essential equipment and important official documents became prey to mob fury.
SSO of the substation Satish Shukla, who was present during the attack, managed to escape from the scene.
However, till late in the evening, no FIR was filed by KESCo officials. SO of Barra police station BB Singh stated that no official of the substation had approached him to lodge an FIR.
Talking to HT general manager of circle III Shashikant said, “I have already issued an order to the assistant general manager concerned of the substation to lodge an FIR.”
He added that in such cases police never lodged an FIR.
“If the local police do not lodge an FIR, I will write to SSP PC Meena about it,” he added.
