Mobile phones seized from Shahabuddin's ward

Altogether 37 mobile phones, including seven from the ward of imprisoned RJD Lok Sabha MP Mohammed Shahabuddin, 10 sim cards, 8 sharp-edged weapons and 15 telephone diaries are seized from the jail in Siwan.

Altogether 37 mobile phones, including seven from the ward of imprisoned RJD Lok Sabha MP Mohammed Shahabuddin, 10 sim cards, 8 sharp-edged weapons and 15 telephone diaries were seized from the jail in Siwan on Sunday, District Magistrate Vandana Priyadarshi said.

On a tip off, a team of officials with policemen jointly led by the DM and SP Umesh Kumar, raided the wards and cells of the divisional jail in the wee hours today and during the five-hour-long intensive search operation, they recovered the mobile phones, sim cards and other items, Priyadarshi told reporters.

Shahabuddin, who is facing life-term in connection with kidnapping-cum-suspected killing of a CPI-ML worker in Siwan, is lodged in the jail at present.

A case was also lodged with the town police station against Shahabuddin and others for allegedly "misbehaving" with an assistant jailor in the prison yesterday, the DM added.
