A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit Canada's remote Yukon Territory early on Saturday, near the border with the US state of Alaska, the US Geological Survey said.

According to the USGS website, the quake occurred at 1301 GMT in the sparsely populated north-western territory, about 65 kilometres southwest of the small town of Old Crow.
