Modi drove straight to Sangh headquarters in Mahal here and spent over two hours with Bhagwat in a closed-door meeting. The timing of his visit has fuelled speculation.

Top BJP leaders led by president Nitin Gadkari and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states were in Delhi to take part in the rally to protest price rise. Modi skipped the programme and visited Bhagwat.

What transpired between the leaders could not be known immediately.

Sources said Modi might have discussed with Bhagwat IPL issue, census in Gujarat and ongoing SIT probe as part of which he was questioned.
