Modi stresses on satellite-based mapping of Narmada canals

In a meeting, Modi was quoted as saying in a statement that Geographic Information System (GIS) should be used for creating irrigation facilities in the state.
Meanwhile, Rural Development Department has prepared a GIS-based watershed planning and management action plan for each district and block of the state.
Principal Secretary, Rural Development, Rita Teotia made a presentation on the action plan and how it will be implemented district wise.
She said the department is now in the process of preparing such action plan for each village of the state.
During the meeting, Modi said the Gujarat Government has achieved good results in water harvesting field by check dams and farm ponds, but now there is a need to bring more and more areas under irrigation.
He added that mapping of the areas and canal networks could be used for the same purpose.
