A NATIONAL Conference MP feels that the ‘Control of Communal Riots Acts’ to bring peace in the Kashmir valley, is a sheer failure and wants that the minority status of Aligarh Muslim University should remain as it is.
Present in the city to take part in a programme organised by the Urdu Press Club, Lok Sabha MP AR Shaheen expressed the above views before the august gathering attending the programme on Sunday.
Commenting on the prevailing scenario in Jammu and Kashmir, Shaheen said, “Terrorism in J&K is unabated and the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed government had failed on every front to combat it.” He added, “The Mufti government with Control of Communal Riots Act is trying to make the government machinery and anti-social elements equally accountable for any untoward incident in the valley.”
Shaheen also said that besides terrorism, lives of Kashmiris have been affected badly due to earthquakes, and incessant snowfall besides hard cold in the State. He urged army, social organizations and various non-government organizations to come forward to help Kashmiris.
“Government should evolve a disaster-management scheme to provide instant relief to afflicted people,” said Shaheen.
In the program other prominent personalities were also present such as Madhurima Singh, noted poetess, Sriprakash Jaisawal, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Ahmad Hussain, Minister for family welfare UP Government, Shoeb Iqbal, Deputy speaker Delhi assembly, Yogesh Pratap Singh among others.
