Gangster Kripashanker Choudhary is the latest to meet his Waterloo in the western metropolis. The Special Task Force and the Mumbai police gunned him down on Saturday.

Before that, the STF shot dead Firdaus of Rae Bareli in Mumbai two months ago. He was an accused in the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and six others.

Two years ago, two sharp shooters of Prem Prakash Singh alias Munna Bajrangi gang were gunned down. These two — Rupesh and Monu — had allegedly shot dead local BJP leader Anil Rai and three others, including a head constable of the UP police, at the Maldahiya crossing here four years ago.

Besides, the Varanasi police arrested Banti Afroz from Mumbai three years ago.
He had escaped from judicial custody here.

After eliminating Rupesh and Monu Singh, the STF of the UP police began sharing intelligence with their counterparts in Maharashtra to track down criminals from UP.

Another shooter of the Bajrangi gang, Anurag Tripathi alias Annu Tripathi was shot dead by an inmate of the Central Jail here last year.

The loss of five sharp shooters and arrest of the Sanjeev Maheshwari alias Jeeva of Muzaffarnagar have weakened the Bajrangi gang. Jeeva is an accused in the Krishnanand Rai murder case.

Though Brijesh Singh of Varanasi and Tribhuwan Singh of Ghazipur, both carry rewards of Rs 2 lakh each on their heads, they have been inactive for the last two and a half years.

Thus, the spotlight is on Bajrangi, who carries a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head. Nabbing him will prove an uphill task for the STF.

Meanwhile, Kripa’s family members, including his mother and elder sister, have left for Mumbai to receive his body.
