Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Gopinath Munde has resigned from the post of Leader of the state Assembly after being appointed National General Secretary of the party.
Munde submitted his resignation on Monday minutes after he received the news that he had made it to the BJP’s national league. "I have never occupied two posts at one time," he told journalists at the BJP’s Nariman Point office on Tuesday.
Munde’s successor will be announced after the civic polls. Senior leader Eknath Khadse is being tipped as the front-runner for the post. Though his new responsibilities are yet to be decided upon, Munde expressed a desire to work for states in north India.
