Murali Kartik has signed to play for Lancashire for the rest of the season.

Indian Test cricketer Murali Kartik has signed to play for Lancashire for the rest of the season.

The all-rounder has recently returned from a tour of Zimbabwe with the Indian squad.

Lancashire cricket manager Mike Watkinson said: "The recent injury to Gary Keedy has limited our options in the spin department and Kartik is a similar style bowler who will give us more depth for the remaining games of the season."

He added, "We are glad that a player of his quality has joined us at such short notice."

Kartik has played in eight Tests and 19 one-day internationals. He has taken 278 first-class wickets at an average of 26.17 with a best of nine for 70 for the Rest of India v Mumbai in 2000.
