Murder fuels tension in Phulpur

TENSION GRIPPED the Phulpur township on Saturday following the recovery of the body of a youth who was killed last night, after an incident of violence that took place during the Nagar panchayat election. Realising the gravity of the situation, additional PAC and Rapid Action Force were rushed to the spot to control the situation. SP (Trans Ganga) and ADM, who were camping in the area, gave no indication of leaving the spot till late in the evening. This was because of rumours doing rounds in the area that riot could break out any time.

TENSION GRIPPED the Phulpur township on Saturday following the recovery of the body of a youth who was killed last night, after an incident of violence that took place during the Nagar panchayat election.

Realising the gravity of the situation, additional PAC and Rapid Action Force were rushed to the spot to control the situation.

SP (Trans Ganga) and ADM, who were camping in the area, gave no indication of leaving the spot till late in the evening. This was because of rumours doing rounds in the area that riot could break out any time.

According to reports, a resident of Veer Kazi village was going to buy medicines from a hospital in the township after the violence.

Just as the victim and his uncle neared the police station tri-section, they were attacked by a mob. The uncle of the victim ran away to save his life. However, mob beat the 40-year-old man who fell to the ground to death. The uncle of the victim, who found shelter in a house, told people that his nephew had been killed by the mob. When the news of killing reached Veer Kazi village, the residents put up a road blockade in front of IFFCO police outpost.

Meanwhile, the SP and the ADM rushed to the spot and pacified the people to lift the road blockade.

The ADM assured the kin of of the victim to pay an ex-gratia payment of Rs 40,000. He also assured them that a sum of Rs 2 lakh would be given to the victim’s kin from the Chief Minister’s fund later.

An FIR was lodged against four persons in connection with the murder. Fifteen persons were taken into custody for disturbing peace.
