The seven-year military rule in Pakistan had proved that the Army could not solve the country's problems, and all Opposition parties were unanimous in refusing to accept another army ruler after Musharraf, the Daily Times quoted the Qazi as saying last evening.

He was addressing a meeting of the Jamaat-e-Islami Women's Wing.

He further said that 2006 was the year of change, and therefore the people of Pakistan would observe August 14 (Pak's Independence Day) as the 'day of deliverance'.

"If political parties showed commitment to ruling the country according to the Constitution, the army would have no place in the political scene," he added.

Lebanon, Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq and Kashmir were in the clutches of "colonial powers", he said.

Ahmad further clarified that Washington was responsible for the brutal actions of the Israeli army in Lebanon and Palestine because US-provided arsenal was being used to fight these wars.
