Muslim body to oppose Congress candidates in Karnataka

Karnataka Muslim Samiti has resolved to oppose Cong candidates in the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.

Karnataka Muslim Sangharsha Samiti has resolved to oppose Congress candidates in the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state after taking into account the performance of governance of the ruling party in the last four-and-half years.

The decision was taken at the Samiti's executive committee meeting here yesterday, the Samiti's President M J Ali said in a statement. "It is a pity that the Congress and its so called Muslim leadership are wooing Muslims, having long ingnored the Muslims at all levels, and are now trying to court them in view of the elections".

"The Muslims will no longer respond to symbolic acts, to emotional appeals, to illusory gestures, to empty offers, to meaning-less promises or to expressions of sympathy", the Samiti said, according to Ali.

After ignoring Muslims in its four-and-half years tenure, the Congress is once again spreading "mayajal" (the net of illusion) through its so called Muslim leaders and religious organisations, it said.

"But the Muslims will not be trapped. The Congress party should know that Muslims are no more a reliable pillar or its traditional vote-bank", the Samiti said, adding, the Executive Committee would again meet on April five to decide whether to support the BJP-led NDA or the Deve Gowda-led JD-S.

The Samiti also decided to tour the entire state to mobilise Muslim masses against the Congress.
