They work out at the same gym, sport the same labels, share their low-rise denims and peekaboo tops. They gyrate to remixes together and share their pizzas. They’re 18 and 40, but think nearly alike. Delhi’s mothers and daughters are bonding and how.

In essence, the trend is about GenThen mothers going out of their way to bridge the generation gap. Designer Preetie Bahl has no problems having a drink (or several) with her daughters, Samantha, 21, studying engineering in Pune and Avantika, 19, a student at Gargi. “Whenever Samantha comes home, we go pubbing together. We had a marvellous time jiving together to trance at Goa’s Club Cabana.”

Homemaker Cheena Vig frequently borrows her 16-year-old daughter’s tops, jeans and perfumes. “We shop together and exchange our clothes,” she says about the special bond she shares with daughter Muskan, a class XII student at Vasant Valley.

Obviously, the dividing line between generations is blurring. There’s a lot of gelling and no yelling over plunging necklines, navel displays, thong lines and bra straps beneath spaghetti tops.

Buzz manager Uppal Ghosh recollects the numerous times he’s attended to a mother-daughter team out pubbing on the weekend. “They order similar dishes and cocktails,” he says.

Concurs Lee Cooper India MD Harpratap Singh: “Mothers and daughters come together and buy denims of the same size and style. Mothers are really fit these days.”

One look at homemaker Bubbly Sarin’s trim figure and you’ll agree with Singh. New-age mums have bridged the generation gap in both mind and body. So, Bubbly’s daughter Sunaini is not alone on the road to designer body salvation. From cosmetics to tops, Sunaini shares practically everything with her mom.

“We’ve spent many evenings together listening to the same kind of music and shopping for tops and trousers,” says Bubbly. Let’s raise a toast to GenNow moms.
