A large number of children dressed in white khadi dresses visited his memorial, Shanti Van, to pay tributes to 'Chacha' Nehru.

Besides Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister Shivraj Patil, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit paid floral tributes at the memorial.

The dignitaries released tricolour balloons held by school children that sang patriotic songs.

Hailed as the modern architect of the country, Nehru was a multi-faceted personality who also excelled in oratory and literature.
