National policy to be followed in future Narmada projects

THE NATIONAL rehabilitation policy would be implemented in all future Narmada Valley projects. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of Narmada Control Board chaired by the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Vidhan Sabha committee hall here today, said an official release.

The Government of India has formulated a national policy for rehabilitation and resettlement of project- affected families. The decision would not affect the ongoing Narmada Valley projects. It would also help seek financial assistance from the national financial institutions for the future Narmada Valley projects, the release added.

Minister for Finance Raghavji, Minister for Agriculture Chaudhari Chandrabhan Singh, Minister for Public Works Kailash Vijayvargiya, Minister for Housing and Environment Jayant Malaiya, Minister for Revenue Kamal Patel, chairman of Narmada Valley Development Authority A V Singh, Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahani, vice chairman of the NVDA Ranvir Singh, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries of concerning departments and chief engineers of the projects attended the meeting, the release added.
