Naxal killed in encounter in Gadchiroli

An alleged Naxalite was killed during an encounter with security forces in Povarwel forests in Dhanora taluka of Gadchiroli district this morning, police said.

A combined patrolling party of C-60 jawans and Kobra Battalion of the CRPF came across a group of Maoists in the forests under Pendhri police station, who opened indiscriminate firing at them, police said.

The jawans also launched a retaliatory attack, in which one Naxalite was killed, police said adding that they had also recovered some firearms and other material from the site.

The deceased was yet to be identified, they added.
