LDA Vice Chairman BB Singh has now urged the Commissioner through a letter to intervene and hold a meeting of authorities concerned since the issue was now taking its toll on the image of the administration, the LDA as also the government. “On April 8, the LDA had put out notice in newspapers giving time till 14 April to illegal occupants to vacate flats voluntarily, failing which they would be ejected forcibly,” said the LDA VC. The letter states that on April 12 and 13, the LDA had written letters both to the District Magistrate and the SSP urging them to provide a magistrate and necessary police support to facilitate its crackdown on the anti-socials housed in these flats.

But though the request went unheeded, the LDA on its own initiated the drive to evict the encroachers and freed 65 flats from their clutches on April 15.

Subsequently, on April 19, yet another advertisement was published in the newspapers by the LDA asking Nehru Enclave defaulters to pay up their dues by April 30 and get the property registered in their name.

In the meantime, a door-to-door survey was also ordered to identify the illegal occupants on the basis of the allotment list of the flats provided by the department’s property section. During the survey it was found that the hooligans had again grabbed the flats from which they were evicted earlier leading to an altercation with the department’s engineers conducting the survey, states the missive.

“Since the prevailing situation is consistently being highlighted by the media, the issue has now begun to have an adverse impact on the image of the authorities,” said Singh. The last letter to the DM and the SSP on May 22, for providing a magistrate and requisite police back up to launch the eviction drive too has drawn a blank. Under these circumstances, the LDA VC has requested the Commissioner to call a meeting of the departments concerned for an action plan for a concerted drive against the enclave ruffians.
